HR 2406 – SHARE Act

The US House of Representatives will be considering HR 2406, the bipartisan Sportsmen’s Heritage and Recreational Enhancement Act (SHARE Act), on Thursday and possibly Friday of this week.  Attached is a summary of the provisions contained in the bill as passed out of the House Natural Resources Committee, as well as the sportsmen’s group letter from Feb 2nd asking House leadership to move the bill.

The SHARE Act, introduced by Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus (CSC) leaders Congressmen Rob Wittman, Tim Walz, Jeff Duncan, and Gene Green, includes 33 additional bipartisan cosponsors. H.R. 2406 has 15 important provisions, including: the Recreational Fishing and Hunting Heritage Opportunities Act; the Hunting, Fishing, and Recreational Shooting Protection Act; Target Practice and Marksmanship Training Support Act; the Farmer and Hunter Protection Act; the permanent creation of the Wildlife and Hunting Heritage Conservation Council Advisory Committee; and the Preserving Public Access to Public Water Act, among others.

Similar legislation passed the House with bipartisan support during the 113th Congress, but unfortunately fell victim to procedural gridlock in the Senate. By allowing consideration of H.R. 2406 on the House floor in this Congress, we are a step closer to ensuring the interests of millions of hunters, anglers, and recreational shooters are protected and advanced now and in the future.

We urge all DSC members to support passage of HR 2406. Contact your respective Congressmen by Thursday, asking them to support the bill.
