DALLAS, Texas (February 26, 2021) – On a 92-7 vote, the U.S. Senate confirmed Tom Vilsack to be the 32nd Secretary of Agriculture. DSC welcomes the Administration’s choice and looks forward to working with the Secretary and the Department of Agriculture on issues of mutual importance.
As Secretary, Vilsack will oversee the U.S. Forest Service, which manages almost 200 million acres of land across the country. He has previously shown to be a strong supporter of conservation both in forestry and in public lands issues while serving as the 30th Secretary of Agriculture under the Obama Administration from 2009 – 2017. Prior to his first stint as Secretary, Vilsack was also a two-term Governor of Iowa.
In response to the confirmation vote, DSC Executive Director Corey Mason stated:
“On behalf of DSC and its members, we welcome Secretary Vilsack to his new, yet familiar role as Secretary of Agriculture. We are excited that the Secretary brings to the table a strong background and experience dealing with land and forest conservation measures. We look forward to collaborating with the Secretary on issues of mutual importance.”
