The American Custom Gunmakers Guild is pleased to present DSC’s 2020 President’s Rifle, handcrafted through a collaborative effort of expert craftsmen. This gun is a pre-’64 Winchester Model 70 action chambered in .338 Win Mag. The superb metalsmithing on this project was completed by ACGG Professional Member, Steve Nelson. Steve was able to maintain and accentuate the lines of the classic American Rifle. Steve also handled the installation and finishing of the 24″ barrel with quarter rib, barrel mounted sling swivel, banded front sight and three leaf express rear sight. Steve’s impeccable work also included fitting and installation of a Jerry Fisher round bottom metal. The top of the receiver is graced with Talley bases to accommodate the future owner’s choice of scope. Following the completion of the metalwork, the gun was provided to ACGG Professional Member Al Lofgren, who took on the task of stocking this great rifle. A beautifully figured, quarter-sawn Bastogne walnut blank was graciously provided by Steve Heilman. In keeping with the classic American rifle style, Al inlet and shaped the stock to exacting dimensions. The stock was accentuated with an ebony fore-end tip and elegant leather-covered recoil pad before final sanding and meticulous hand-rubbed finish was applied. The stock is beautifully checkered by Al and sports classic fleur de lis pattern work throughout. For engraving, the gun was sent to Firearm Engraver’s Guild Master Engraver, Brian Hochstrat for some light English scroll and platinum inlays. The inlays depict a zebra on the floorplate with an outline of Africa on the grip cap.
The inlays also highlight the trigger guard, receiver and quarter rib with floral accents. The metalwork is finished in a deep blue to show off the platinum inlays to their best advantage. We would like to thank all the craftsmen/artisans who were involved with the crafting of this fine firearm. Valued at $25,000.
