Welcome to May! Last month, I talked about the glimmer of light at the end of the COVID tunnel. Today, that light is even brighter.
By the looks of my social media feeds and text messages, many of you had tremendous spring turkey seasons, and others are practicing your social distancing by dipping a hook in the water. Several of you have ventured to Africa, with amazing trip reports.
I’m thrilled to be gearing up for DSC’s first in-person event this year – the Big Bore Shoot sponsored by Heym USA coming up on May 22. I’m anxiously awaiting the opportunity to dust off the .375 H&H and knock the cobwebs off my shooting in anticipation of a hunt, hopefully in the not too distant future. Perhaps even more importantly, I can’t wait to see “our” people, to share stories, to enjoy each other’s company.
Beyond Dallas, I must give a huge shout-out to DSC’s Chapter Partners that are such a huge part of who DSC is. During this pandemic, they endured many struggles as they continued moving forward, but they are emerging even stronger than before. Congratulations to the South Texas chapter for a tremendously successful banquet this past month! Several other chapters have events coming up in the next few months, including DSC Oklahoma’s banquet and DSC Heartland’s Kid Fish event. Where is all this headed? Hopefully to a fantastic and memorable celebration of the 40th anniversary of DSC’s annual convention. We’re already gearing up for it and are determined to make it one for the books. Get excited with all of us—check out our new convention video that will be debuting soon, and make sure your calendars are marked for January 6-9!
Of course, we recognize that many in this industry are still struggling, and we don’t want to diminish that. We stand with you and acknowledge the difficulties you are facing. We look forward to happier days ahead.
